About

How do we remember the forests, our time and actions? What are the memories of the now 18-year-old in the future? How are the activities creating those memories faced now?

Four performers, readers and discussants are waiting for you in the Kiasma Theatre at the Kemi – II muistio puista –event.

The event was preceded by the performance Kemi – muistio puista, performed at the Kemi city theatre in spring 2022. The performance, set 100 years in the future, explored the connections with trees, forests, paper and factories, and the crises arising from these connections.

Kemi – II muistio puista is related to the slowly developed network of performances. Together with the first part of the Kemi –series, it is connected to the Non-human performance (/Kronopolitiikka – III muistio ajasta), which is an endless performance that started in 1.3.2010. These are all part of Muistoja ajasta (2006-) performance series, which are for and with non-humans, but also Tuija Kokkonen / Maus&Orlovski memo performances, that has been performed at Kiasma Theatre since 1999.

Artist

Tuija Kokkonen is an artist, a researcher and the professor of artistic research (2018–) at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. Since 1996 she has worked on a series of site-specific memo performances, as the director and the artistic director of Maus&Orlovski, an ever-changing performance collective of artists from various fields. The memos are explorations on relationships between performance, “nature”, non-human and time, and on the role of art in the age of ecological crises. They chart terrains between genres of art, between species; terrains where aesthetics, ethics and politics are inseparable. Since 1999 the memos have been performed mainly in the program of Kiasma Theatre/ Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, and internationally.
