Vapauden kauhu (‘The Horror of Freedom’) – A performance about the end of imprisonment.
A joint production by the Finnish National Theatre’s Touring Stage and Kiasma Theatre, the performance explores the situations of people being released from prison, and why the process is so difficult in our society. Combining theatre, music and moving images, the performance includes both professional actors as well as people who have served time in prison.

The ten-part performance is based on material collected in Bytom by Tero Nauha in 2012. The performance presents a review of the rapid structural changes that alter the former mining town and its current life, setting them in the context of the artist’s own life story. The work is part of Nauha’s doctoral research for the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts.
